ಆಗ ಸೌಲನು--ನನ್ನ ಕೈ ಅವನ ಮೇಲೆ ಇರಬಾರದು; ಆದರೆ ಫಿಲಿಷ್ಟಿಯರ ಕೈ ಅವನ ಮೇಲೆ ಇರಲಿ ಅಂದುಕೊಂಡು ದಾವೀದನಿಗೆ--ಇಗೋ, ನನ್ನ ಹಿರಿಯ ಮಗಳಾದ ಮೇರಬಳನ್ನು ನಿನಗೆ ಹೆಂಡತಿಯಾಗಿ ಕೊಡುವೆನು; ನೀನು ನನಗೋಸ್ಕರ ಪರಾಕ್ರಮಶಾಲಿ ಯಾಗಿದ್ದು ಕರ್ತನ ಯುದ್ಧಗಳನ್ನು ನಡಿಸು ಅಂದನು.

ಆದರೆ ಸೌಲನು-- ದಾವೀದ ನನ್ನು ಫಿಲಿಷ್ಟಿಯರ ಕೈಯಿಂದ ಬೀಳಮಾಡಬೇಕೆಂದು ನೆನಸಿ ತನ್ನ ಸೇವಕರಿಗೆ--ನೀವು ದಾವೀದನಿಗೆ--ಅರಸನು ಯಾವ ತೆರವನ್ನೂ ಅಪೇಕ್ಷಿಸದೆ ತನ್ನ ಶತ್ರು ಗಳಿಗೆ ಮುಯ್ಯಿಗೆ ಮುಯ್ಯಿ ತೀರಿಸುವ ಹಾಗೆ ನೂರು ಮಂದಿ ಫಿಲಿಷ್ಟಿಯರ ಮುಂದೊಗಲನ್ನು ಅಪೇಕ್ಷಿಸು ತ್ತಾನೆಂದು ಹೇಳಿರಿ ಅಂದನು.

ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್ ಮನು ಷ್ಯರು--ಏರಿ ಬಂದ ಈ ಮನುಷ್ಯನನ್ನು ನೋಡಿ ದಿರೋ? ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲನ್ನು ಹೀಯಾಳಿಸಲು ಏರಿ ಬಂದಿದ್ದಾನಲ್ಲಾ. ಯಾವನು ಇವನನ್ನು ಕೊಂದುಬಿಡು ವನೋ ಅವನನ್ನು ಅರಸನು ಬಹಳ ಐಶ್ವರ್ಯ ವಂತನಾಗ ಮಾಡಿ ಅವನಿಗೆ ತನ್ನ ಮಗಳನ್ನು ಕೊಟ್ಟು ಅವನ ತಂದೆಯ ಮನೆಯನ್ನು ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್ಯರಲ್ಲಿ ಸರ್ವ ಮಾನ್ಯವನ್ನು ಕೊಡುವನು ಅಂದರು.
