Nehemiah 5:4
ಇನ್ನು ಕೆಲವರು--ಅರಸನಿಗೆ ಕಪ್ಪವನ್ನು ಕೊಡಲು ನಾವು ನಮ್ಮ ಹೊಲಗಳ ಮೇಲೆಯೂ ನಮ್ಮ ದ್ರಾಕ್ಷೇ ತೋಟಗಳ ಮೇಲೆಯೂ ಸಾಲವನ್ನು ತೆಗೆದು ಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದೇವೆ.

ನದಿಯ ಆಚೆಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಸ್ಥಳಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ ಆಳುತ್ತಾ ಇದ್ದ ಯೆರೂಸಲೇಮಿನ ಪರಾಕ್ರಮಶಾಲಿಗಳಾದ ಅರಸು ಗಳು ಇದ್ದರು; ಸುಂಕವೂ ಕಪ್ಪವೂ ತೆರಿಗೆಯೂ ಅವ ರಿಗೆ ಕೊಡಲ್ಪಟ್ಟವು ಎಂದು ಕಾಣಿಸಿತು.

ಇದಲ್ಲದೆ ಯಾಜಕರೂ ಲೇವಿ ಯರೂ ಹಾಡುಗಾರರೂ ದ್ವಾರಪಾಲಕರೂ ನೆತಿನಿ ಯರೂ ಮೊದಲಾದ ದೇವರ ಆಲಯದ ಸೇವಕರನ್ನು ಕುರಿತು ಏನಂದರೆ--ಅವರ ಮೇಲೆ ತೆರಿಗೆಯನ್ನಾದರೂ ಕಪ್ಪವನ್ನಾದರೂ ಸುಂಕವನ್ನಾದರೂ ಹೊರಿಸಲು ಅಪ್ಪಣೆ ಇಲ್ಲವೆಂದು ನಿಮಗೆ ತಿಳಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ.

ನಮ್ಮ, ಪಾಪಗಳಿಗೋಸ್ಕರ ನೀನು ನಮ್ಮ ಮೇಲೆ ಇಟ್ಟ ಅರಸುಗಳಿಗೆ ಅದರ ಹುಟ್ಟುವಳಿ ಬಹಳ ಹೋಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಇದಲ್ಲದೆ ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಇಚ್ಛೆಯ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ನಮ್ಮ ಶರೀರಗಳ ಮೇಲೆಯೂ ನಮ್ಮ ಪಶುಗಳ ಮೇಲೆಯೂ ಆಳುತ್ತಾರೆ; ನಾವು ಬಹು ಇಕ್ಕಟ್ಟಿನಲ್ಲಿದ್ದೇವೆ.
