ಆದರೆ ಅರಾಮ್ಯರು ಯೆಹೋರಾಮನನ್ನು ಹೊಡೆದರು. ಅವನು ಅರಾಮಿನ ಹಜಾಯೇಲನ ಸಂಗಡ ಯುದ್ಧ ಮಾಡುವಾಗ ರಾಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಗಾಯಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದ್ದ ರಿಂದ ಇಜ್ರೇಲಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಗುಣಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ತಿರಿಗಿದನು. ಯೆಹೂದದ ಅರಸನಾಗಿರುವ ಯೆಹೋರಾಮನ ಮಗನಾದ ಅಹಜ್ಯನು ಇಜ್ರೇಲಿನಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಅಹಾ ಬನ ಮಗನಾದ ಯೆಹೋರಾಮನನ್ನು ನೋಡಲು ಬಂದನು; ಯಾಕಂದರೆ ಇವನು ರೋಗಸ್ಥನಾಗಿದ್ದನು.

ಯೆರೂಸಲೇಮಿನ ನಿವಾಸಿಗಳು ಅವನಿಗೆ ಬದಲಾಗಿ ಅವನ ಚಿಕ್ಕ ಮಗನಾದ ಅಹಜ್ಯ ನನ್ನು ಅರಸನಾಗಿ ಮಾಡಿದರು. ದಂಡಿಗೆ ಬಂದ ಅರಬ್ಬಿಯರ ಗುಂಪು ಹಿರಿಯರನ್ನೆಲ್ಲಾ ಕೊಂದುಹಾಕಿ ದರು. ಹೀಗೆ ಯೆಹೋರಾಮನ ಮಗನಾದ ಅಹಜ್ಯನು ಯೆಹೂದದ ಅರಸನಾಗಿ ಆಳಿದನು.

ಯೆಹೋರಾಮನ ಬಳಿಗೆ ಅವನು ಬಂದದ್ದರಿಂದ ಅಹಜ್ಯನಿಗೆ ಉಂಟಾದ ನಷ್ಟವು ದೇವರಿಂದ ಆಯಿತು. ಹೇಗಂದರೆ ಅವನು ಬಂದ ತರುವಾಯ ಕರ್ತನು ಅಹಾಬನ ಮನೆಯನ್ನು ಕಡಿದು ಬಿಡಲು ಅಭಿಷೇಕಿಸಿದ ನಿಂಷಿಯ ಮಗನಾದ ಯೇಹುವಿಗೆ ವಿರೋಧವಾಗಿ ಯೆಹೋರಾಮನ ಸಂಗಡ ಹೊರಟನು.
