આ સર્વ યોદ્ધા શસ્ત્ર સાથે શજ્જ થઇને દાઉદને ઇસ્રાએલનો રાજા બનાવવાના એકમાત્ર હેતુથી હેબ્રોન આવ્યા હતા. એકંદરે ઇસ્રાએલના સર્વ નેતાઓ આવું ઇચ્છતા હતા.

આ રીતે તેણે યહૂદાના લોકોના સર્વ કોઈનાં હૃદય જીતી લીધાં અને તેઓએ સૌએ સાથે રાજાને સંદેશો મોકલ્યો કે, “આપ અને આપના બધા માંણસોએ પાછા આવવું જ જોઇશે.”

અમને લાગે છે કે આપના ઉપર જેઓ પ્રેમ રાખે છે તેમને આપ ધિક્કારો છો, અને જેઓ આપને ધિક્કારે છે તેમના ઉપર આપ પ્રેમ રાખો છો. આપે એ સ્પષ્ટ બતાવી આપ્યું છે કે સેનાપતિઓની અને લડાયકોની આપને કશી કિંમત નથી. હુ સ્પષ્ટ જોઉં છું કે જો આજ આબ્શાલોમ જીવતો હોત અને અમે બધા મરી ગયા હોત તો આપ રાજી થયા હોત.

આબ્નેર હેબ્રોન પહોંચ્યો અને જ્યારે તે નગરના દરવાજા પાસે પહોચ્યો, તે વખતે યોઆબ તેની સાથે જાણે ખાનગીમાં વાત કરવાનો દેખાવ કરીને તેને એક બાજુ લઈ ગયો અને તેનો છરો કાઢયો અને પેટમાં ભોંકી તેને માંરી નાંખ્યો. યોઆબે તેને માંર્યો કારણકે આબ્નેરે તેના ભાઇ અસાહેલને માંરી નાખ્યો હતો.
