એને રોપ્યો છે એ ખરું, પણ એ ફૂલશેફાલશે ખરો? જ્યારે પૂર્વના પવનો વાશે ત્યારે એ સુકાઇ નહિ જાય? જે બગીચામાં એ ઊગ્યો છે ત્યાં ને ત્યાં એ ચીમળાઇ નહિ જાય?”

ઈસુએ રસ્તાની બાજુએ એક અંજીરનું ઝાડ જોયું અને અંજીર ખાવાની આશાએ તે વૃક્ષ પાસે ગયો, પણ ઝાડ ઉપર એક પણ અંજીર નહોતું. તેના પર કેવળ પાંદડા જ હતાં તેથી તેણે વૃક્ષને કહ્યું, “ભવિષ્યમાં તારા પર કદી ફળ લાગશે નહિ!” અને અંજીરનું ઝાડ તરત જ સૂકાઈ ગયું.

બીજી સવારે ઈસુ તેના શિષ્યો સાથે ચાલતો હતો. તેઓએ અંજીરીનું ઝાડ જોયું. ઈસુ આગલા દિવસે જે વિષે બોલ્યો હતો. એ અંજીરનું વૃક્ષ તેના મૂળ સાથે સૂકાઇ ગયેલું જોયું.
યોહાન 15:6
જો કોઈ વ્યક્તિ મારામાં રહેતી નથી તો પછી તે ડાળી ફેંકી દેવા જેવી છે. તે ડાળી નાશ પામે છે. લોકો સુકાઈ ગયેલી ડાળીઓ ઉપાડી લે છે અને તેને અગ્નિમાં નાખીને બાળી નાખે છે.
યહૂદાનો પત્ર 1:12
આ લોકો તમે જે વિશિષ્ટ ભોજનમાં સાથે સહભાગી બનો છો તેમા ગંદા ડાઘ જેવા છે. તેઓ ભય વિના તમારી સાથે ખાય છે. તેઓ ફક્ત પોતાની જાતની જ સંભાળ રાખે છે. તેઓ વરસાદ વિનાનાં વાદળાં છે. પવન તેઓને આજુબાજુ ઘસડે છે. તેઓ ફળ વિનાનાં વૃક્ષો જેવાં છે. જ્યારે ફળનો સમય આવે ત્યાંરે તેઓને ફળ આવતાં નથી તેથી જમીનમાંથી ઉખેડી કાઢવામાં આવે છે. તેથી તેઓ બે વખત મરણ પામે છે.
