હિઝિક્યાના અમલના 4માં વષેર્ આશ્શૂરના રાજા સાન્હેરીબે યહૂદાનાં બધાં કિલ્લેબંદી નગરો પર ચડાઈ કરીને તે કબજે કરી લીધાં.

હિઝિક્યા રાજાએ આ સેવાભકિતના કાર્યો નિષ્ઠાપૂર્વક કર્યા પછી આશ્શૂરના રાજા સાન્હેરીબે યહૂદા ઉપર ચઢાઇ કરી અને કિલ્લેબંદીવાળાં શહેરો સામે પડાવ નાખ્યો અને તેમને હુમલો કરીને કબજે કરવાનો હુકમ આપ્યો.
યશાયા 7:17
“એફ્રાઇમ યહૂદાથી જુદો પડ્યો ત્યાર પછી આવ્યા નહોતા એવા દિવસો યહોવા તારા પર, તારી પ્રજા પર તથા તારા બાપના કુટુંબ પર લાવશે. તે આશ્શૂરના રાજાને બોલાવી લાવશે.
યશાયા 8:7
તેથી હું યહોવા યહૂદા પર ફ્રાત નદીના ધસમસતાં અને વેગીલા જળપ્રવાહને લઇને આવીશ, હું આશ્શૂરના રાજા તથા તેના સમગ્ર બળવાન સૈન્ય સાથે આવીશ. જળપ્રવાહ ઉભરાઇ જશે અને સમગ્ર તટ પ્રદેશને સપાટામાં લઇ લેશે.

પ્રભુએ કહ્યું, “આશ્શૂર તો મારા ગુસ્સાનો દંડૂકો છે, તેના હાથમાં મારા ગુસ્સાની લાઠી છે!

યહોવા કહે છે,” ઇસ્રાએલ વાયુને પકડવાનો કોઇ પ્રયત્ન કરતું હોય તેમ વતેર્ છે. તેઓ તેમના જૂઠાણા વધારે છે અને વધારેને વધારે ચોરે છે. તેઓ આશ્શૂરીઓ સાથે કરારો કરે છે, પણ એ જ સમયે મિસરને ખંડણી તરીકે જેતૂનનું તેલ મોકલે છે.
