1 દેવના દીકરા, ઈસુ ખ્રિસ્ત વિષેની સુવાર્તાનો આરંભ.

2 યશાયા પ્રબોધકે જે કહ્યુ છે તે થશે. યશાયાએ લખ્યું છે: ‘ધ્યાનથી સાંભળો! હું (દેવ) મારા દૂતને તારી આગળ મોકલીશ. તે તારા માટે માર્ગ તૈયાર કરશે.’ માલાખી 3:1

3 ‘ત્યાં એક વ્યક્તિ છે જે રેતીના રણમાં પોકાર કરે છે: ‘પ્રભુ માટે માર્ગ તૈયાર કરો. તેના રસ્તા સીધા કરો.”‘ યશાયા 40:3

4 તેથી યોહાન બાપ્તિસ્ત આવ્યો અને રણપ્રદેશમાં લોકોને બાપ્તિસ્મા આપતો હતો. તેણે લોકોને કહ્યું કે જો તેઓ તેમના જીવનમાં પરિવર્તન ઈચ્છતા હોય તો તે બતાવવા માટે બાપ્તિસ્મા પામે પછી તેમના પાપો માફ કરવામાં આવશે.

5 યહૂદિયા દેશના અને યરૂશાલેમના બધા લોકો યોહાન પાસે આવવા નીકળ્યા. આ લોકોએ કરેલાં પાપોની કબૂલાત કર્યા પછી યર્દન નદીમાં તેઓ યોહાન દ્ધારા બાપ્તિસ્મા પામ્યા.

6 ઊંટના વાળમાંથી બનાવેલાં વસ્ત્રો યોહાન પહેરતો હતો. યોહાન તેની કમરે એક ચામડાનો પટટો બાંધતો હતો. તે તીડો તથા જંગલી મધ ખાતો હતો.

7 યોહાન લોકોને જે ઉપદેશ આપતો હતો તે આ છે: ‘મારા કરતાં જે વધારે મહાન છે તે મારી પાછળ આવે છે. હું તો તેના ઘૂંટણે પડવા તથા તેના જોડાની દોરી છોડવા માટે પણ યોગ્ય નથી.

8 મેં તમારું પાણીથી બાપ્તિસ્મા કર્યુ. પણ જે વ્યક્તિ આવે છે તે તમારું પવિત્ર આત્માથી બાપ્તિસ્મા કરશે.

9 તે વખતે ઈસુ ગાલીલના નાસરેથથી જ્યાં યોહાન હતો તે જગ્યાએ આવ્યો. યોહાને યર્દન નદીમાં ઈસુને બાપ્તિસ્મા આપ્યુ.

10 જ્યારે ઈસુ પાણીમાંથી બહાર આવતો હતો ત્યારે તેણે આકાશ ઊઘડેલું જોયું. પવિત્ર આત્મા ઈસુ પર કબૂતરની જેમ આવ્યો.

11 આકાશમાંથી એક અવાજ આવ્યો અને કહ્યું, ‘તું મારો વ્હાલો દીકરો અને હું તને ચાહુ છું. હું તારા પર ઘણો પ્રસન્ન થયો છું.’

12 પછીથી આત્માએ ઈસુને રણમાં મોકલ્યો.

13 ઈસુ રણમાં 40 દિવસો રહ્યો હતો. તે ત્યાં જંગલી પશુઓ સાથે હતો. જ્યારે ઈસુ રણમાં હતો શેતાનથી તેનું પરીક્ષણ થયું હતું. અને દૂતોએ આવીને ઈસુની સેવા કરી.

14 આ પછી, યોહાનને બંદીખાનામાં મૂકવામાં આવ્યો હતો. ઈસુ ગાલીલમાં ગયો અને દેવ તરફથી સુવાર્તા પ્રગટ કરી.

15 ઈસુએ કહ્યું, ‘હવે નિશ્ચિત સમય આવી પહોંચ્યો છે. દેવનું રાજ્ય નજીક છે. પસ્તાવો કરો અને દેવની સુવાર્તામાં વિશ્વાસ કરો!’

16 ઈસુ ગાલીલના સરોવરની બાજુમાં ચાલતો હતો ત્યારે ઈસુએ સિમોનના ભાઈ આંદ્રિયાને જોયો. આ બંને માણસો માછીમારો હતા, અને તેઓ માછલા પકડવા સરોવરમાં જાળ નાખતા હતાં.

17 ઈસુએ તેમને કહ્યું, ‘મારી પાછળ આવો, ને હું તમને એક જુદા પ્રકારના માછીમારો બનાવીશ. તમે લોકોને ભેગા કરવાનું કામ કરશો, માછલીઓ નહિ.’

18 તેથી સિમોન અને આંદ્રિયાએ તેઓની જાળો છોડી દીધી અને ઈસુની પાછળ ગયા.

19 ઈસુએ ગાલીલ સરોવરની બાજુમાં ચાલવાનું ચાલુ રાખ્યું. તેણે ત્યાં બે વધારે ભાઈઓ, ઝબદીનો દીકરો યાકૂબ અને યોહાનને જોયા. તેઓ હોડીમાં તેમની માછલાં પકડવાની જાળો તૈયાર કરતાં હતા.

20 તેમનો પિતા ઝબદી અને તે માણસો જે તેમના માટે કામ કરતાં હતા, તેઓ તે ભાઈઓ સાથે હોડીમાં હતા. જ્યારે ઈસુએ તે ભાઈઓને જોયા, તેણે તેઓને આવવા કહ્યું. તેઓએ તેમના પિતાને છોડ્યા અને ઈસુની પાછળ ગયા.

21 ઈસુ અને તેના શિષ્યો કફર-નહૂમમાં ગયા. વિશ્રામવારે ઈસુ સભાસ્થાનમાં ગયો અને લોકોને ઉપદેશ આપ્યો.

22 ત્યાં જે લોકો હતા તેઓ ઈસુના ઉપદેશથી નવાઇ પામ્યા. ઈસુએ તેમના શાસ્ત્રીઓની જેમ શીખવ્યું નહિ. પરંતુ ઈસુએ જે વ્યક્તિ પાસે અધિકાર હોય તેવી રીતે શીખવ્યું.

23 જ્યારે ઈસુ સભાસ્થાનમાં હતો, ત્યારે એક અશુદ્ધ આત્મા વળગેલા માણસે બૂમ પાડી,

24 ‘નાઝરેથના ઈસુ! તારે અમારી સાથે શું છે? શું તું અમારો નાશ કરવા આવ્યો છે? હું જાણું છું તું કોણ છે-દેવનો એક પવિત્ર!’

25 ઈસુએ તેને ધમકાવતાં કહ્યું, ‘શાંત રહે! તે માણસમાંથી બહાર નીકળ!’

26 તે અશુદ્ધ આત્માએ તે માણસને ધ્રુંજાવી નાખ્યો. પછી તે આત્માએ મોટી બૂમ પાડી અને તે માણસમાંથી બહાર નીકળી ગયો.

27 લોકો નવાઇ પામ્યા હતા. તેઓએ એકબીજાને પૂછયું, ‘અહીં શું થઈ રહ્યું છે? આ માણસ કઈક નવું શીખવે છે. અને તે અધિકારથી શીખવે છે. તે અશુદ્ધ આત્માઓને પણ હુકમ કરે છે અને તેઓ તેનું માને છે.’

28 તેથી ઈસુના સમાચાર ઝડપથી ગાલીલના પ્રદેશમાં સર્વત્ર પ્રસરી ગયા.

29 ઈસુ અને તેના શિષ્યોએ સભાસ્થાન છોડ્યું. તેઓ યાકૂબ અને યોહાન સાથે સિમોન અને આંદ્રિયાના ઘરમાં ગયા.

30 સિમોનની સાસુ બિમાર હતી. તે પથારીમા હતી અને તેને તાવ હતો. ત્યાંના લોકોએ ઈસુને તેના વિષે કહ્યું.

31 તેથી ઈસુ તેની પથારી પાસે ગયો. ઈસુએ તેનો હાથ પકડ્યો અને તેને ઉભા થવામાં મદદ કરી. તેનો તાવ ઉતરી ગયો અને તે સાજી થઈ ગઈ. પછીથી તેણે તેઓની સેવા કરવી શરું કરી.

32 તે રાત્રે સૂર્યાસ્ત થયા પછી લોકો ઘણા માંદા લોકોને ઈસુ પાસે લાવ્યા તથા જેઓને ભૂતો વળગેલા હતા તેવા લોકોને પણ લાવ્યા હતા.

33 શહેરના બધાજ લોકો તે ઘરનાં બારણા આગળ ભેગા થયા.

34 ઈસુએ ઘણા લોકો જેઓ જુદા જુદા રોગથી પીડાતા હતા તે બધાને સાજા કર્યા. ઈસુએ ઘણાં ભૂતોને કાઢ્યાં. પણ ઈસુએ ભૂતોને બોલવા દીધાં નહિ, કારણ કે ભૂતો જાણતા હતા કે તે કોણ હતો.

35 બીજી સવારે, ઈસુ ઘણો વહેલો ઉઠ્યો. જ્યારે અંધારું હતું ત્યારે ઈસુએ ઘર છોડ્યું. તે એકાંત જગ્યાએ એકલો પ્રાર્થના કરવા ગયો.

36 પાછળથી, સિમોન અને તેના મિત્રો ઈસુની શોધમાં નીકળ્યા.

37 તેઓએ ઈસુને શોધ્યો અને કહ્યું, ‘બધા જ લોકો તારી રાહ જોઈ રહ્યા છે!’

38 ઈસુએ જવાબ આપ્યો, ‘આપણે બીજી કોઈ જગ્યાએ જવું જોઈએ. આપણે અહીંના આજુબાજુના બીજાં ગામોમાં જઇએ, હું તે સ્થળોએ પણ ઉપદેશ આપી શકુ તે માટે આવ્યો છું.’

39 તેથી ઈસુએ ગાલીલમાં સર્વત્ર મુસાફરી કરી. સભાસ્થાનોમાં તેણે ઉપદેશ કર્યો, અને તેણે દુષ્ટાત્માઓને લોકોને છોડીને જવા ફરજ પાડી.

40 એક માણસ કે જેને કોઢ હતો તે ઈસુ પાસે આવ્યો. તે માણસે ઘૂંટણ ટેકવીને ઈસુને વિનંતી કરી. ‘તું ઈચ્છે તો તું મને સાજો કરવા સમર્થ છે.’

41 ઈસુને આ માણસ માટે દયા આવી. તેથી ઈસુએ તે માણસને સ્પર્શ કર્યો અને કહ્યું, ‘હું તને સાજો કરવા ઈચ્છું છું, સાજો થઈ જા!’

42 પછી માંદગી તે માણસને છોડી ગઈ અને તે સાજો થઈ ગયો.

43 ઈસુએ તે માણસને જવાનું કહ્યું. પણ ઈસુએ તેને કડક ચેતવણી આપી. ઈસુએ કહ્યું,

44 ‘મેં તારા માટે જે કાંઇ કર્યું તે વિષે તું કોઈ વ્યક્તિને કહીશ નહિ. પણ જા અને યાજકને જઇને બતાવ. અને દેવને ભેટ અર્પણ કર. કારણ કે તું સાજો થઈ ગયો છે. મૂસાએ જે ફરમાન કર્યુ છે તેની ભેટ અર્પણ કર. આથી લોકોને સાક્ષી મળશે કે તું સાજો થઈ ગયો છે’

45 તે માણસ ત્યાંથી વિદાય થયો અને બધા લોકોને તેણે જોયા તે સર્વને કહ્યું કે ઈસુએ તેને સાજો કર્યો છે. તેથી ઈસુ વિષેના સમાચાર પ્રસરી ગયા. અને તેથી ઈસુ ફરી શહેરમાં ઉઘાડી રીતે જઇ ન શક્યો. ઈસુ એવી જગ્યાઓએ રહ્યો જ્યાં લોકો રહેતાં ન હતા. પરંતુ બધા શહેરોના લોકો ઈસુ જે જગ્યાએ હતો ત્યાં આવ્યા.

2 As it is written in the prophets, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.

3 The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.

4 John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.

5 And there went out unto him all the land of Judaea, and they of Jerusalem, and were all baptized of him in the river of Jordan, confessing their sins.

6 And John was clothed with camel’s hair, and with a girdle of a skin about his loins; and he did eat locusts and wild honey;

7 And preached, saying, There cometh one mightier than I after me, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to stoop down and unloose.

8 I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.

9 And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John in Jordan.

10 And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon him:

11 And there came a voice from heaven, saying, Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

12 And immediately the Spirit driveth him into the wilderness.

13 And he was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted of Satan; and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered unto him.

14 Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God,

15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.

16 Now as he walked by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.

17 And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men.

18 And straightway they forsook their nets, and followed him.

19 And when he had gone a little farther thence, he saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the ship mending their nets.

20 And straightway he called them: and they left their father Zebedee in the ship with the hired servants, and went after him.

21 And they went into Capernaum; and straightway on the sabbath day he entered into the synagogue, and taught.

22 And they were astonished at his doctrine: for he taught them as one that had authority, and not as the scribes.

23 And there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out,

24 Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God.

25 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him.

26 And when the unclean spirit had torn him, and cried with a loud voice, he came out of him.

27 And they were all amazed, insomuch that they questioned among themselves, saying, What thing is this? what new doctrine is this? for with authority commandeth he even the unclean spirits, and they do obey him.

28 And immediately his fame spread abroad throughout all the region round about Galilee.

29 And forthwith, when they were come out of the synagogue, they entered into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.

30 But Simon’s wife’s mother lay sick of a fever, and anon they tell him of her.

31 And he came and took her by the hand, and lifted her up; and immediately the fever left her, and she ministered unto them.

32 And at even, when the sun did set, they brought unto him all that were diseased, and them that were possessed with devils.

33 And all the city was gathered together at the door.

34 And he healed many that were sick of divers diseases, and cast out many devils; and suffered not the devils to speak, because they knew him.

35 And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.

36 And Simon and they that were with him followed after him.

37 And when they had found him, they said unto him, All men seek for thee.

38 And he said unto them, Let us go into the next towns, that I may preach there also: for therefore came I forth.

39 And he preached in their synagogues throughout all Galilee, and cast out devils.

40 And there came a leper to him, beseeching him, and kneeling down to him, and saying unto him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.

41 And Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou clean.

42 And as soon as he had spoken, immediately the leprosy departed from him, and he was cleansed.

43 And he straitly charged him, and forthwith sent him away;

44 And saith unto him, See thou say nothing to any man: but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing those things which Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.

45 But he went out, and began to publish it much, and to blaze abroad the matter, insomuch that Jesus could no more openly enter into the city, but was without in desert places: and they came to him from every quarter.

9 તે વખતે ઈસુ ગાલીલના નાસરેથથી જ્યાં યોહાન હતો તે જગ્યાએ આવ્યો. યોહાને યર્દન નદીમાં ઈસુને બાપ્તિસ્મા આપ્યુ.

10 જ્યારે ઈસુ પાણીમાંથી બહાર આવતો હતો ત્યારે તેણે આકાશ ઊઘડેલું જોયું. પવિત્ર આત્મા ઈસુ પર કબૂતરની જેમ આવ્યો.

11 આકાશમાંથી એક અવાજ આવ્યો અને કહ્યું, ‘તું મારો વ્હાલો દીકરો અને હું તને ચાહુ છું. હું તારા પર ઘણો પ્રસન્ન થયો છું.’

16 ઈસુ ગાલીલના સરોવરની બાજુમાં ચાલતો હતો ત્યારે ઈસુએ સિમોનના ભાઈ આંદ્રિયાને જોયો. આ બંને માણસો માછીમારો હતા, અને તેઓ માછલા પકડવા સરોવરમાં જાળ નાખતા હતાં.

17 ઈસુએ તેમને કહ્યું, ‘મારી પાછળ આવો, ને હું તમને એક જુદા પ્રકારના માછીમારો બનાવીશ. તમે લોકોને ભેગા કરવાનું કામ કરશો, માછલીઓ નહિ.’

18 તેથી સિમોન અને આંદ્રિયાએ તેઓની જાળો છોડી દીધી અને ઈસુની પાછળ ગયા.

19 ઈસુએ ગાલીલ સરોવરની બાજુમાં ચાલવાનું ચાલુ રાખ્યું. તેણે ત્યાં બે વધારે ભાઈઓ, ઝબદીનો દીકરો યાકૂબ અને યોહાનને જોયા. તેઓ હોડીમાં તેમની માછલાં પકડવાની જાળો તૈયાર કરતાં હતા.

20 તેમનો પિતા ઝબદી અને તે માણસો જે તેમના માટે કામ કરતાં હતા, તેઓ તે ભાઈઓ સાથે હોડીમાં હતા. જ્યારે ઈસુએ તે ભાઈઓને જોયા, તેણે તેઓને આવવા કહ્યું. તેઓએ તેમના પિતાને છોડ્યા અને ઈસુની પાછળ ગયા.

21 ઈસુ અને તેના શિષ્યો કફર-નહૂમમાં ગયા. વિશ્રામવારે ઈસુ સભાસ્થાનમાં ગયો અને લોકોને ઉપદેશ આપ્યો.

22 ત્યાં જે લોકો હતા તેઓ ઈસુના ઉપદેશથી નવાઇ પામ્યા. ઈસુએ તેમના શાસ્ત્રીઓની જેમ શીખવ્યું નહિ. પરંતુ ઈસુએ જે વ્યક્તિ પાસે અધિકાર હોય તેવી રીતે શીખવ્યું.

23 જ્યારે ઈસુ સભાસ્થાનમાં હતો, ત્યારે એક અશુદ્ધ આત્મા વળગેલા માણસે બૂમ પાડી,

24 ‘નાઝરેથના ઈસુ! તારે અમારી સાથે શું છે? શું તું અમારો નાશ કરવા આવ્યો છે? હું જાણું છું તું કોણ છે-દેવનો એક પવિત્ર!’

25 ઈસુએ તેને ધમકાવતાં કહ્યું, ‘શાંત રહે! તે માણસમાંથી બહાર નીકળ!’

28 તેથી ઈસુના સમાચાર ઝડપથી ગાલીલના પ્રદેશમાં સર્વત્ર પ્રસરી ગયા.

29 ઈસુ અને તેના શિષ્યોએ સભાસ્થાન છોડ્યું. તેઓ યાકૂબ અને યોહાન સાથે સિમોન અને આંદ્રિયાના ઘરમાં ગયા.

30 સિમોનની સાસુ બિમાર હતી. તે પથારીમા હતી અને તેને તાવ હતો. ત્યાંના લોકોએ ઈસુને તેના વિષે કહ્યું.

31 તેથી ઈસુ તેની પથારી પાસે ગયો. ઈસુએ તેનો હાથ પકડ્યો અને તેને ઉભા થવામાં મદદ કરી. તેનો તાવ ઉતરી ગયો અને તે સાજી થઈ ગઈ. પછીથી તેણે તેઓની સેવા કરવી શરું કરી.

32 તે રાત્રે સૂર્યાસ્ત થયા પછી લોકો ઘણા માંદા લોકોને ઈસુ પાસે લાવ્યા તથા જેઓને ભૂતો વળગેલા હતા તેવા લોકોને પણ લાવ્યા હતા.

33 શહેરના બધાજ લોકો તે ઘરનાં બારણા આગળ ભેગા થયા.

34 ઈસુએ ઘણા લોકો જેઓ જુદા જુદા રોગથી પીડાતા હતા તે બધાને સાજા કર્યા. ઈસુએ ઘણાં ભૂતોને કાઢ્યાં. પણ ઈસુએ ભૂતોને બોલવા દીધાં નહિ, કારણ કે ભૂતો જાણતા હતા કે તે કોણ હતો.

35 બીજી સવારે, ઈસુ ઘણો વહેલો ઉઠ્યો. જ્યારે અંધારું હતું ત્યારે ઈસુએ ઘર છોડ્યું. તે એકાંત જગ્યાએ એકલો પ્રાર્થના કરવા ગયો.

36 પાછળથી, સિમોન અને તેના મિત્રો ઈસુની શોધમાં નીકળ્યા.

37 તેઓએ ઈસુને શોધ્યો અને કહ્યું, ‘બધા જ લોકો તારી રાહ જોઈ રહ્યા છે!’

38 ઈસુએ જવાબ આપ્યો, ‘આપણે બીજી કોઈ જગ્યાએ જવું જોઈએ. આપણે અહીંના આજુબાજુના બીજાં ગામોમાં જઇએ, હું તે સ્થળોએ પણ ઉપદેશ આપી શકુ તે માટે આવ્યો છું.’

39 તેથી ઈસુએ ગાલીલમાં સર્વત્ર મુસાફરી કરી. સભાસ્થાનોમાં તેણે ઉપદેશ કર્યો, અને તેણે દુષ્ટાત્માઓને લોકોને છોડીને જવા ફરજ પાડી.

40 એક માણસ કે જેને કોઢ હતો તે ઈસુ પાસે આવ્યો. તે માણસે ઘૂંટણ ટેકવીને ઈસુને વિનંતી કરી. ‘તું ઈચ્છે તો તું મને સાજો કરવા સમર્થ છે.’

41 ઈસુને આ માણસ માટે દયા આવી. તેથી ઈસુએ તે માણસને સ્પર્શ કર્યો અને કહ્યું, ‘હું તને સાજો કરવા ઈચ્છું છું, સાજો થઈ જા!’

42 પછી માંદગી તે માણસને છોડી ગઈ અને તે સાજો થઈ ગયો.

43 ઈસુએ તે માણસને જવાનું કહ્યું. પણ ઈસુએ તેને કડક ચેતવણી આપી. ઈસુએ કહ્યું,

44 ‘મેં તારા માટે જે કાંઇ કર્યું તે વિષે તું કોઈ વ્યક્તિને કહીશ નહિ. પણ જા અને યાજકને જઇને બતાવ. અને દેવને ભેટ અર્પણ કર. કારણ કે તું સાજો થઈ ગયો છે. મૂસાએ જે ફરમાન કર્યુ છે તેની ભેટ અર્પણ કર. આથી લોકોને સાક્ષી મળશે કે તું સાજો થઈ ગયો છે’

45 તે માણસ ત્યાંથી વિદાય થયો અને બધા લોકોને તેણે જોયા તે સર્વને કહ્યું કે ઈસુએ તેને સાજો કર્યો છે. તેથી ઈસુ વિષેના સમાચાર પ્રસરી ગયા. અને તેથી ઈસુ ફરી શહેરમાં ઉઘાડી રીતે જઇ ન શક્યો. ઈસુ એવી જગ્યાઓએ રહ્યો જ્યાં લોકો રહેતાં ન હતા. પરંતુ બધા શહેરોના લોકો ઈસુ જે જગ્યાએ હતો ત્યાં આવ્યા.

2 As it is written in the prophets, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.

3 The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.

4 John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.

5 And there went out unto him all the land of Judaea, and they of Jerusalem, and were all baptized of him in the river of Jordan, confessing their sins.

6 And John was clothed with camel’s hair, and with a girdle of a skin about his loins; and he did eat locusts and wild honey;

7 And preached, saying, There cometh one mightier than I after me, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to stoop down and unloose.

8 I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.

9 And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John in Jordan.

10 And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon him:

11 And there came a voice from heaven, saying, Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

12 And immediately the Spirit driveth him into the wilderness.

13 And he was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted of Satan; and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered unto him.

14 Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God,

15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.

16 Now as he walked by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.

17 And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men.

18 And straightway they forsook their nets, and followed him.

19 And when he had gone a little farther thence, he saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the ship mending their nets.

20 And straightway he called them: and they left their father Zebedee in the ship with the hired servants, and went after him.

21 And they went into Capernaum; and straightway on the sabbath day he entered into the synagogue, and taught.

22 And they were astonished at his doctrine: for he taught them as one that had authority, and not as the scribes.

23 And there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out,

24 Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God.

25 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him.

26 And when the unclean spirit had torn him, and cried with a loud voice, he came out of him.

27 And they were all amazed, insomuch that they questioned among themselves, saying, What thing is this? what new doctrine is this? for with authority commandeth he even the unclean spirits, and they do obey him.

28 And immediately his fame spread abroad throughout all the region round about Galilee.

29 And forthwith, when they were come out of the synagogue, they entered into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.

30 But Simon’s wife’s mother lay sick of a fever, and anon they tell him of her.

31 And he came and took her by the hand, and lifted her up; and immediately the fever left her, and she ministered unto them.

32 And at even, when the sun did set, they brought unto him all that were diseased, and them that were possessed with devils.

33 And all the city was gathered together at the door.

34 And he healed many that were sick of divers diseases, and cast out many devils; and suffered not the devils to speak, because they knew him.

35 And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.

36 And Simon and they that were with him followed after him.

37 And when they had found him, they said unto him, All men seek for thee.

38 And he said unto them, Let us go into the next towns, that I may preach there also: for therefore came I forth.

39 And he preached in their synagogues throughout all Galilee, and cast out devils.

40 And there came a leper to him, beseeching him, and kneeling down to him, and saying unto him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.

41 And Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou clean.

42 And as soon as he had spoken, immediately the leprosy departed from him, and he was cleansed.

43 And he straitly charged him, and forthwith sent him away;

44 And saith unto him, See thou say nothing to any man: but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing those things which Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.

45 But he went out, and began to publish it much, and to blaze abroad the matter, insomuch that Jesus could no more openly enter into the city, but was without in desert places: and they came to him from every quarter.
