પરંતુ મુખ્ય યાજકો અને ફરોશીઓએ ઈસુ વિષે ખાસ હુકમ આપ્યો હતો. તેઓએ કહ્યું, કે જો કોઈ વ્યક્તિ ઈસુ ક્યાં છે તે જાણે તો તે માણસે તેઓને જણાવવું જોઈએ. પછી મુખ્ય યાજકો અને ફરોશીઓ ઈસુને પકડી શકે.

પરંતુ ઘણા લોકોએ ઈસુમાં વિશ્વાસ મૂક્યો. ઘ્ૅંણા યહૂદિ આગેવાનોએ પણ ઈસુમાં વિશ્વાસ મૂક્યો. પરંતુ તેઓ ફરોશીઓથી બીતા હતા. તેથી તેઓ જાહેરમાં કહી શકતા નહોતા કે તેઓએ વિશ્વાસ મૂક્યો છે. તેઓને ભય હતો કે તેઓ તેમને કદાય સભાસ્થાનમાંથી કાઢી મૂકે.

તેથી તે ફરોશીઓએ એકબીજાને કહ્યું, “જુઓ! નોંઘ કરો તમે કશામાં સફળતા પ્રાપ્ત કરી નથી. આખું જગત તેને અનુસરે છે!”
