ઈબ્રાહિમ જ્યારે સુન્નત વગરનો હતો ત્યારે તે વિશ્વાસના માર્ગે દેવ સાથે ન્યાયી થયો હતો. તે સાબિત કરવા માટે પાછળથી તેણે સુન્નત કરાવી. આ રીતે ઈબ્રાહિમ જે બધા લોકોએ સુન્નત નથી કરાવી તેના પૂર્વજ છે તેથી દેવે આ લોકોને દેવ સાથે ન્યાયી હોવાની માન્યતા આપી છે.

જયારે ઇબ્રામ 99 વર્ષનો થયો, ત્યારે યહોવાએ તેને દર્શન આપીને કહ્યું, “હું સર્વસમર્થ દેવ છું. માંરા માંટે આ કામ કર. માંરી આજ્ઞા માંથે ચઢાવી કોઈ પણ દોષમાં પડયા વિના ચાલ.

પછી ઇબ્રાહિમે સાષ્ટાંગ નમસ્કાર કરીને દેવની ભકિત દર્શાવી. અને મનમાં હસ્યો. તે મનોમન વિચારવા લાગ્યો, “હું તો 100 વર્ષનો વૃદ્વ છું. હું પુત્ર કેવી રીતે ઉત્પન્ન કરી શકું? અને સારા 90 વર્ષની વૃદ્વા છે, તે બાળકને જન્મ આપી શકે નહિ.”

ઈબ્રાહિમ જ્યારે લગભગ સો વર્ષનો થયો, ત્યારે તે બાળકોના પિતા બનવાની ઉંમર વિતાવી ચૂક્યો હતો. વળી, તેણે આ જાણ્યું કે સારા ને બાળકો થાય એવી કોઈ શક્યતા ન હતી. તે પોતાના દૃઢ વિશ્વાસમાંથી જરા પણ ડગ્યો નહિ.
