શાઉલનો પૌત્ર મફીબોશેથ પણ રાજાને મળવા ગયો હતો, રાજા યરૂશાલેમ છોડીને ગયા તે દિવસથી, તે જીત મેળવીને પાછા ન ફરે ત્યાં સુધી, તેણે પોતાનાં વસ્રો કે પગ ધોયાઁ નહોતાં, કે દાઢી પણ વ્યવસ્થિત રીતે કરી નહોતી.
