એલઆઝાર વંશજો ઇથામારના વંશજો કરતાં સંખ્યામાં વધારે હતા, આથી એલઆઝારના વંશજોનાં જુદાં-જુદાં કુટુંબના સોળ જૂથ પાડવામાં આવ્યા અને ઇથામારના વંશજોનાં કુટુંબોના આઠ જૂથ પાડવામાં આવ્યાં. અને એ દરેક જૂથનો આગેવાન તે પોતાના કુટુંબનો વડો હતો.
