Matthew 16:19
আমি তোমাকে স্বর্গরাজ্যের চাবিগুলি দেব, তাতে তুমি এইপৃথিবীতে যা বাঁধবে তা স্বর্গেও বেঁধে রাখা হবে৷ আর পৃথিবীতে যা হতে দেবে তা স্বর্গেও হতে দেওযা হবে৷’

அப்படியே கர்த்தருக்குப் பயந்தும், தாங்கள் விட்டுவந்த மக்களுடைய முறைமையின்படியே தங்கள் தேவர்களை வணங்கியும் வந்தார்கள்.

அவர்கள் கர்த்தரை மதித்தார்கள். அதே சமயத்தில தமக்குச் சொந்தமான பொய்த் தெய்வங்களையும் சேவித்தார்கள். தம் சொந்த நாடுகளில் வழிபட்டு வந்த விதத்திலே தம் சொந்தத் தெய்வங்களை அங்கும் சேவித்து வந்தனர்.
