তারা য়িরীহো দখল করার পর যিহোশূয় কয়েকজন লোককে অয়তে পাঠালেন| অয় বৈথেলের পূর্বদিকে বৈত্‌-আবনের কাছে অবস্থিত| যিহোশূয় তাদের বললেন, “তোমরা অয়তে যাও| সেই জায়গায় কি কি দুর্বল দিক আছে দেখে এসো|” সে কথা শুনে লোকরা সেই দেশে গুপ্তচরবৃত্তি করতে গেল|
