সুতরাং সিদিকিযের শাসনের নবমতম বছরের দশম মাসের দশম দিনে বাবিলের রাজা নবূখদ্রিত্‌সর জেরুশালেম আক্রমণ করেন| বাবিলের রাজার সঙ্গে তাঁর সমস্ত সেনাবাহিনী ছিল| তারা জেরুশালেমের বাইরে অস্থায়ী শিবির গড়ে| তারপর তারা উঁচু প্রাচীরের মত বাঁধ তৈরী করল যাতে এই প্রাচীরগুলির ওপর উঠে অনায়াসে জেরুশালেমে প্রবেশ করা যায়|

“সেই জাতি তোমাদের নগরের চারিদিক ঘিরে তোমাদের আক্রমণ করবে| তোমরা কি মনে করছ নগরের চারিধারের শক্ত উঁচু প্রাচীর তোমাদের রক্ষা করবে? কিন্তু তারা ভেঙ্গে পড়বে| প্রভু, তোমাদের ঈশ্বরের, দেওয়া সেই দেশের সর্বত্র সমস্ত নগরগুলি শত্রুরা আক্রমণ করবে|
