সে সিযীরায পৌঁছে ইফ্রয়িমের পাহাড়ী অঞ্চলে গিয়ে শিঙা বাজাল| ইস্রায়েলবাসীরা শিঙার শব্দ শুনে পাহাড় থেকে নেমে এল| এহূদ তাদের নেতৃত্ব দিচ্ছিল|

ইফ্রয়িমের পাহাড়ে দেশগুলোয গিদিয়োন দূত পাঠিয়ে দিলেন| দূতরা বলল, “তোমরা নেমে এসো| মিদিয়নদের আক্রমণ করো| বৈত্-বারা আর যর্দন নদী পর্য়ন্ত যে নদী চলে গেছে তোমরা তার দখল নাও| মিদিয়নরা সেখানে যাবার আগেই এই কাজটা তোমরা করে নাও|”এইভাবে ইফ্রয়িম পরিবারগোষ্ঠীর সবাইকে দূতরা আহ্বান করল| যে নদী বৈত্-বারা পর্য়ন্ত বয়ে গেছে সেই নদী তারা অধিকার করল|

অমালেকদের পাহাড়ী দেশ হতে ইফ্রয়িমের লোকরা এসেছিল| হে বিন্যামীন, তারা তোমায় ও তোমার লোকদের এবং মাখীর পরিবার থেকে আসা অধ্যক্ষগণকে অনুসরণ করেছিল| হে সবূলূন তোমার নেতারা সেনাপতির দণ্ড নিয়ে এসেছিল|

তোমরা পাহাড়ী দেশটা নিয়ে নাও| এটা বনজঙ্গল হলেও গাছগুলো কেটে বসবাসের উপযুক্ত করে নিও| সমস্ত জায়গা তোমরাই নিও| সেখান থেকে কনানীয়দের তাড়িয়ে দিও|তারা যদি শক্তিশালী হয় এবং তাদের কাছে যদি বেশী অস্ত্রশস্ত্রও থাকে তবু তোমরা তাদের নিশ্চয়ই পরাজিত করবে|”

যিহোশূয় বললেন, “বেশ তোমরা যদি প্রচুর লোকজন হও তাহলে ওপরের অরণ্যে ঢাকা পাহাড়ী দেশে চলে যাও, সেখানকার বন কেটে পরিষ্কার করে ব্যবহারয়োগ্য কর| সে জায়গায় এখন পরিষীয় আর রফাযীয়রা থাকে| কিন্তু যদি পাহাড়ী দেশ ইফ্রয়িম তোমাদের জন্য যথেষ্ট না হয় তাহলে তোমরা আরো উচ্চ পাহাড়ী দেশে যাও এবং সেখানকার সব জায়গা দখল করো|”
