அப்பொழுது வேதபாரகரும் பரிசேயரும் யோசனைபண்ணி, தேவதூஷணம் சொல்லுகிற இவன் யார்? தேவன் ஒருவரேயன்றிப் பாவங்களை மன்னிக்கத்தக்கவர் யார் என்றார்கள்.

நாம் அப்பங்களைக் கொண்டுவராதபடியால் இப்படிச் சொல்லுகிறார் என்று அவர்கள் தங்களுக்குள்ளே யோசனைபண்ணிக்கொண்டார்கள்.

இயேசு அதை அறிந்து, அவர்களை நோக்கி: உங்களிடத்தில் அப்பங்கள் இல்லாதபடியினால் நீங்கள் யோசனைபண்ணுகிறதென்ன? இன்னும் சிந்தியாமலும் உணராமலும் இருக்கிறீர்களா? இன்னும் உங்கள் இருதயம் கடினமாயிருக்கிறதா?

அவைகளால் நாங்கள் தர்க்கங்களையும், தேவனை அறிகிற அறிவுக்கு விரோதமாய் எழும்புகிற எல்லா மேட்டிமையையும் நிர்மூலமாக்கி, எந்த எண்ணத்தையும் கிறிஸ்துவுக்குக் கீழ்ப்படியச் சிறைப்படுத்துகிறவர்களாயிருக்கிறோம்.
