அப்பொழுது அசீரியா ராஜா லாகீலிருந்து ரப்சாக்கேயைப் பெரிய சேனையோடே எருசலேமுக்கு எசேக்கியா ராஜாவினிடத்தில் அனுப்பினான்; அவன் வந்து வண்ணார் துறையின் வழியிலுள்ள மேல்குளத்துச் சாலகத்தண்டையிலே நின்றான்.

சனகெரிப் எருசலேமிற்கு எதிராகப் போரிட அவனது தளபதியை அனுப்பினான். தளபதி லாகீசை விட்டு எருசலேமில் இருந்த எசேக்கியா அரசனிடம் சென்றான். அந்தத் தளபதி தன்னோடு வல்லமையான படையை அழைத்துச் சென்றான். தளபதியும் அவனது படையும் வண்ணார்துறையின் அருகிலுள்ள சாலைக்குச் சென்றனர். அந்தச் சாலை, மேல் குளத்திலிருந்து வரும் தண்ணீர்க் குழாயின் அருகில் இருந்தது.
