அப்சலோம் அம்னோனோடே நன்மையாகிலும் தீமையாகிலும் பேசவில்லை; தன் சகோதரியாகிய தாமாரை அம்னோன் கற்பழித்த காரியத்தினிமித்தம் அப்சலோம் அவனைப் பகைத்தான்.

அன்று ராத்திரி தேவன் சீரியா தேசத்தானாகிய லாபானுக்குச் சொப்பனத்தில் தோன்றி: நீ யாக்கோபோடே நன்மையே அன்றித் தீமை ஒன்றும் பேசாதபடிக்கு எச்சரிக்கையாயிரு என்றார்.

உன் சகோதரனை உன் உள்ளத்தில் பகையாயாக; பிறன்மேல் பாவம் சுமராதபடிக்கு அவனை எப்படியும் கடிந்து கொள்ளவேண்டும்.

அப்பொழுது லாபானும் பெத்துவேலும் பிரதியுத்தரமாக: இந்தக்காரியம் கர்த்தரால் வந்தது, உமக்கு நாங்கள் நலம் பொலம் ஒன்றும் சொல்லக் கூடாது.

தன் சகோதரனைப் பகைக்கிற எவனும் மனுஷகொலைபாதகனாயிருக்கிறான்; மனுஷ கொலைபாதகனெவனோ அவனுக்குள் நித்தியஜீவன் நிலைத்திராது என்று அறிவீர்கள்.

உங்களுக்குப் பொல்லாப்புச் செய்ய எனக்கு வல்லமையுண்டு; ஆகிலும் உங்கள் தகப்பனுடைய தேவன் நீ யாக்கோபோடே நன்மையே அன்றித் தீமை ஒன்றும் பேசாதபடிக்கு எச்சரிக்கையாயிரு என்று நேற்று ராத்திரி என்னோடே சொன்னார்.

பகையை மறைக்கிறவன் பொய்உதடன்; புறங்கூறுகிறவன் மதிகேடன்.

நீ உன் அயலானுடனே மாத்திரம் உன் வியாஜ்யத்தைக்குறித்து வழக்காடு, மற்றவனிடத்தில் இரகசியத்தை வெளிப்படுத்தாதே.

பகைஞன் தன் உள்ளத்தில் கபடத்தை மறைத்து, தன் உதடுகளினால் சூதுபேசுகிறான்.

உக்கிரம் கொடுமையுள்ளது, கோபம் நிஷ்டூரமுள்ளது; பொறாமையோவென்றால், அதற்கு முன்னிற்கத்தக்கவன் யார்?

உன் மனதில் சீக்கிரமாய்க் கோபங்கொள்ளாதே; மூடரின் நெஞ்சிலே கோபம் குடிகொள்ளும்.

உன் சகோதரன் உனக்கு விரோதமாகக் குற்றஞ்செய்தால், அவனிடத்தில் நீ போய், நீயும் அவனும் தனித்திருக்கையில், அவன் குற்றத்தை அவனுக்கு உணர்த்து அவன் உனக்குச் செவிகொடுத்தால், உன் சகோதரனை ஆதாயப்படுத்திக்கொண்டாய்.

நீங்கள் கோபங்கொண்டாலும் பாவஞ்செய்யாதிருங்கள், சூரியன் அஸ்தமிக்கிறதற்கு முன்னாக உங்கள் எரிச்சல் தணியக்கடவது;

சகலவிதமான கசப்பும், கோபமும், மூர்க்கமும், கூக்குரலும், தூஷணமும், மற்ற எந்தத் துர்க்குணமும் உங்களைவிட்டு நீங்கக்கடவது.

ஒளியிலே இருக்கிறேன் என்று சொல்லியும் தன் சகோதரனைப் பகைக்கிறவன் இதுவரைக்கும் இருளிலே இருக்கிறான்.

தன் சகோதரனைப் பகைக்கிறவன் இருளிலே இருந்து இருளிலே நடக்கிறான்; இருளானது அவன் கண்களைக் குருடாக்கினபடியால் தான் போகும் இடம் இன்னதென்று அறியாதிருக்கிறான்.
