ஏனென்றால், கேட்கிற எவனும் பெற்றுக்கொள்ளுகிறான்; தேடுகிறவன் கண்டடைகிறான்; தட்டுகிறவனுக்குத் திறக்கப்படும்.

இதனால் மன்னன் ஏரோது மிகுந்த துக்கம் கொண்டான். ஆனால் தன் மகள் எதை விரும்பினாலும் தருவதாக வாக்களித்திருந்தான். ஏரோதுவுடன் உணவருந்திக்கொண்டிருந்தவர்கள் அவன் வாக்குறுதியைக் கேட்டிருந்தார்கள். எனவே, அவள் விரும்பியதை நிறைவேற்ற ஏரோது கட்டளையிட்டான்.
