அப்பொழுது யூதேயா தேசத்தார் அனைவரும் எருசலேம் நகரத்தார் யாவரும், அவனிடத்திற்குப்போய், தங்கள் பாவங்களை அறிக்கையிட்டு, யோர்தான் நதியில் அவனால் ஞானஸ்நானம் பெற்றார்கள்.

இணை வசனம்

அவர்கள் எனக்கு விரோதமாகத் துரோகம்பண்ணி நடப்பித்த தங்கள் அக்கிரமத்தையும், தங்கள் பிதாக்களின் அக்கிரமத்தையும் அறிக்கையிடுகிறதுமன்றி,

விசுவாசித்தவர்களில் அநேகர் வந்து, தங்கள் செய்கைகளை வெளிப்படுத்தி அறிக்கையிட்டார்கள்.

அப்பொழுது யோசுவா ஆகானை நோக்கி: மகனே, நீ இப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேலின் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தரை மகிமைப்படுத்து, அவருக்கு முன்பாக அறிக்கைபண்ணி, நீ செய்ததை எனக்குச் சொல்லு; அதை எனக்கு ஒளிக்காதே என்றான்.

நான் என் அக்கிரமத்தை மறைக்காமல், என் பாவத்தை உமக்கு அறிவித்தேன்; என் மீறுதல்களைக் கர்த்தருக்கு அறிக்கையிடுவேன் என்றேன்; தேவரீர் என் பாவத்தின் தோஷத்தை மன்னித்தீர்.(சேலா.)

தன் பாவங்களை மறைக்கிறவன் வாழ்வடையமாட்டான்; அவைகளை அறிக்கை செய்து விட்டுவிடுகிறவனோ இரக்கம் பெறுவான்.

அப்பொழுது, எருசலேம் நகரத்தாரும், யூதேயா தேசத்தார் அனைவரும், யோர்தானுக்கு அடுத்த சுற்றுப்புறத்தார் யாவரும் அவனிடத்திற்குப் போய்,

கலிலேயாவிலும், தெக்கப்போலியிலும், எருசலேமிலும், யூதேயாவிலும், யோர்தானுக்கு அப்புறத்திலும் இருந்த திரளான ஜனங்கள் வந்து, அவருக்குப் பின்சென்றார்கள்.

இவைகள் யோர்தானுக்கு அக்கரையில் யோவான் ஞானஸ்நானங்கொடுத்த பெத்தாபராவிலே நடந்தன.

சாலிம் ஊருக்குச் சமீபமான அயினோன் என்னும் இடத்திலே தண்ணீர் மிகுதியாயிருந்தபடியினால், யோவானும் அங்கே ஞானஸ்நானங்கொடுத்துவந்தான்; ஜனங்கள் அவனிடத்தில் வந்து ஞானஸ்நானம் பெற்றார்கள்.

பேதுரு அவர்களை நோக்கி: நீங்கள் மனந்திரும்பி, ஒவ்வொருவரும் பாவமன்னிப்புக்கென்று இயேசுகிறிஸ்துவின் நாமத்தினாலே ஞானஸ்நானம் பெற்றுக்கொள்ளுங்கள், அப்பொழுது பரிசுத்த ஆவியின் வரத்தைப் பெறுவீர்கள்.

நமக்குப் பாவமில்லையென்போமானால் நம்மை நாமே வஞ்சிக்கிறவர்களாயிருப்போம், சத்தியம் நமக்குள் இராது.
