யாக்கோபு சுக்கோத்துக்குப் பிரயாணம்பண்ணி, தனக்கு ஒரு வீடு கட்டி, தன் மிருகஜீவன்களுக்குக் கொட்டாரங்களைப் போட்டான்; அதினாலே அந்த ஸ்தலத்துக்குச் சுக்கோத் என்று பேரிட்டான்.

அவன் யூதாவினிடத்தில் திரும்பி வந்து: அவளைக் காணவில்லை, அங்கே விலைமாது இல்லையென்று அந்த இடத்து மனிதர்களும் சொல்லுகிறார்கள் என்றான்.

இணை வசனம்

எஸ்போனின் ராஜாவாகிய சீகோனுடைய ராஜ்யத்தின் மற்றப்பங்காகிய பள்ளத்தாக்கிலிருக்கிற பெத்தாராமும், பெத்நிம்ராவும், சுக்கோத்தும் சாப்போனும், யோர்தான்மட்டும் இருக்கிறதும், கிழக்கே யோர்தானின் கரையோரமாய்க் கின்னரேத் கடலின் கடையாந்தரமட்டும் இருக்கிறதும், அவர்கள் எல்லைகுள்ளாயிற்று.

அவன் சுக்கோத்தின் மனுஷரை நோக்கி: என்னோடிருக்கிற ஜனத்திற்குச் சில அப்பங்களைக் கொடுங்கள்; அவர்கள் விடாய்த்திருக்கிறார்கள், நான் மீதியானியரின் ராஜாக்களாகிய சேபாவையும் சல்முனாவையும் பின்தொடருகிறேன் என்றான்.

தேவன் தமது பரிசுத்தத்தைக்கொண்டு விளம்பினார், ஆகையால் களிகூருவேன்; சீகேமைப் பங்கிட்டு சுக்கோத்தின் பள்ளத்தாக்கை அளந்துகொள்ளுவேன்.

அவ்விடம் விட்டு, பெனூவேலுக்குப்போய், அவ்வூராரிடத்தில் அந்தப்படியே கேட்டான்; சுக்கோத்தின் மனுஷர் பிரதியுத்தரமாகச் சொன்னபடியே பெனூவேலின் மனுஷரும் அவனுக்குச் சொன்னார்கள்.

பட்டணத்தின் மூப்பரைப் பிடித்து, வனாந்தரத்தின் முள்ளுகளையும் நெரிஞ்சில்களையும் கொண்டுவந்து, அவைகளால் சுக்கோத்தின் மனுஷருக்குப் புத்திவரப்பண்ணி,

இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் ராமசேசை விட்டுக் கால்நடையாய்ப் பிரயாணம் பண்ணி, சுக்கோத்துக்குப் போனார்கள்; அவர்கள் பிள்ளைகள்தவிர ஆறுலட்சம் புருஷராயிருந்தார்கள்.

அவர்கள் சுக்கோத்திலிருந்து பிரயாணப்பட்டு, வனாந்தரத்தின் ஓரமாய் ஏத்தாமிலே பாளயமிறங்கினார்கள்.

சுக்கோத்தின் மனுஷரில் ஒரு வாலிபனைப் பிடித்து, அவனிடத்தில் விசாரித்தான்; அவன் சுக்கோத்தின் பிரபுக்களும் அதின் மூப்பருமாகிய எழுபத்தேழு மனுஷரின் பேரை அவனுக்கு எழுதிக்கொடுத்தான்.

யோர்தானுக்கு அடுத்த சமனான பூமியிலே, சுக்கோத்துக்கும் சர்தானுக்கும் நடுவே களிமண்தரையிலே ராஜா இவைகளை வார்ப்பித்தான்.
